Dior - Somerset House - Exhibition - Nov10/Jan9

"THE iconic work of Dior illustrator René Gruau will be showcased in a new exhibition held at Somerset House from November 10 - January 9. The display will feature 40 original illustrations for Dior Parfums and a selection of Haute Couture Dior dresses handpicked by John Galliano, including a dress designed for Galliano himself in tribute to Gruau."
I would like to go to this exhibition - i think Dior is just absolutely stunning, so classy and elegant!
looks like trip to london time!

What We Wear...

"....After weeks of violent protests, Bangladesh nearly doubled the minimum monthly wage Thursday for millions of workers in the key export garment industry to 3,000 taka ($43) from 1,662 taka, but it fell far short of labor union demands of 5,000 taka. The increase will take effect on November 1, 2010.

"We are rejecting what has been offered as increased wages because it is too inadequate to make ends meet," a worker told Reuters news agency.

Bangladesh-based factories make clothes for international brands such JCPenney, Wal-Mart, H&M, Marks&Spencer, Zara and Carrefour.

Garments are Bangladesh's biggest export, accounting for more than 80 percent of annual export earnings worth $16 billion as garment industry workers earn wages well below the poverty line.

The garment sector is Bangladesh's second biggest employer after agriculture, with about 4,500 factories employing about 3.5 million workers, with many toiling in dangerous conditions.

Dozens of workers were injured in clashes with police last month at protests over salaries and working conditions that disrupted production at several factories. —"Bangladesh Garment Workers Riot Over New Wages," MSNBC.com

"Fashion celebrated Halloween in a big way with the star studded Lanvin Halloween bash at the brand’s new Madison Avenue boutique. The perfect way to show off the new space and have a little trick or treat fun, no? Not to mention the fact that Alber just won accessories designer of the year"

CYA LATER!

Most Wanted: Week 2

Office Boots: I was originally getting the Kurt Geiger ones, which had fur on the inside *drool* but story of my life they're sold out and not coming back so i have opted to downgrade to the awfully similar office ones - minus the fur :(

3.1 Phillip Lim - i will stay gladly innocently oblivious to the price of any of these items - he is one of my fav menswear designers!

Skingraft - Oh My God! I need this leather jacket for winter - i have one from a few years back but it just got beaten up after looking at this one - £541

McQueen - £180 - bargain for this jumper, want this in my wardrobe bad!

Henrik Vibskov - Another fav menswear designer - the pattern on this jumper is amazing!

and because there were too many nice coats n jackets to slim down to one, heres a few pictures of ones i must own!

Bottom: Creep / Zambesi

Boys Will Be...

"Menswear editorials have always played with ideas about androgyny and gender, but fashion is experiencing a drag moment these past few months. You could call it the Candy effect; the groundbreaking transgender fashion mag launched with a now infamous editorial / cover by Brett Lloyd and since then photographers from Nick Knight to Terry Richardson and Steven Klein have all incorporated drag looks in their photographs. Shots of boys in girls clothing test the versatility of male models (who knew Cesar Casier looked so great in a shift dress) and challenge archaic rules about who can wear what, but are you enjoying fashion’s love affair with all things drag?"

I know i am!

Olivier Theyskens

"just landed a new gig; the innovative designer takes over as artistic director for Theory. Fashion fanatics have been anticipating Theyskens’ Spring 2011 capsule collection for months, but now he’s set to bring his romantic aesthetic to the entire brand. What will his newly affordable vision look like? You’ll have to wait until Fall 2011 to see."

Kelis - Scream

Another song i'm obsessing over at the moment - and Artist to be honest - she's come a long way since "I hate you so much right now!"

So it's nice to see a fresh Kelis and surprisingly a visual treat in her videos lately - as opposed to Milkshakes robbin everyones man!

Stella Vine

While researching my current royal project i found out information about an artist called Stella Vine - i'd never heard of her before until this project.
It wasn't relevant to my project or theme but i have always been really interested in Princess Diana's death and the conspiracies that surround it, here's a few images of her work
Judge for yourself.

Her work is very controversial - i read somewhere that right after Diana's death she made around 20paintings but binned them all but a couple - i find this fascinating - as if she kept refining her process until she got to a happy end result

Craig Lawrence

'I design for anyone who's daring enough to wear my clothes', says Craig Lawrence, one of London's brightest new designers. Lawrence has become something of a young prodigy, having been awarded the British Fashion Council's NEWGEN award four seasons running and whose college years at Central Saint Martins were spent designing knitwear for provocative designer Gareth Pugh.

Yesterday saw the launch of Lawrence's A/W collection for experimental London boutique Machine-A, focussed on separates and showcasing Lawrence's signature experimental knitwear. 'This special project with Machine-A was really about working on more accessible pieces, it's still using the same techniques but creating separates to make it more accessible', says Lawrence, whose designs have already been worn by avant-garde personalities such as Lady Gaga and Björk. In a duotone palette of gold metallic and black yarns, an array of slinky, body-conscious crop tops, mini-dresses, cycling shorts and Lawrence's favourite piece, a pair of gloves, offered a youthful, disheveled glamour. 'But it's all in a London style, it's very street in a way', emphasised Lawrence.

Without a doubt, these were highly desirable pieces, exuding a freedom and refined playfulness. A name to be watched.
